Build Something That Lasts With Wood Siding From WoodPlank

Wood siding has a deeper grain and a unique surface texture you can feel under your hand. No two boards are identical, and that’s a huge part of what has kept real wood as the go-to exterior siding for centuries.

WoodPlank’s exterior wood siding collection features a range of species and treatment levels, including thermally modified ash, hemlock, poplar, pine, and western red cedar. We even have reclaimed boards for aged character.

No matter your choice of siding, we’ll ship it right to your doorstep or job site. You can start with free samples to compare grain, color, and texture in person first. Give us a call at (844) 755-9663 for help with species selection, material estimates, or project questions.

Different Types of Exterior Wood Siding to Choose From

Most of this collection is thermally modified, a process that uses high heat and steam to change the wood’s cell structure so it absorbs less moisture, resists rot, and holds its shape through seasonal swings. No chemical preservatives involved. Options include:

  • Poplar siding: Our best seller with a rich, dark brown walnut appearance. It’s incredibly durable, too.
  • Ash siding: Hardwood density with a rich, warm grain. Strong moisture resistance from the thermal process.
  • Hemlock siding: Tight, even surface with minimal knots. Available sealed or unsealed - choose from a factory-applied finish or apply it yourself on site after installation.
  • Pine siding: Lightest, most workable species in the collection. Also the most affordable at just $179.99 per 15 square feet.
  • Wood cladding (Modern Exterior): Poplar and ash in a contemporary profile. The Wide Plank range also comes in 1x8, 1x10, and 1x12 boards with V-Joint, Nickel Gap, and S4S edges.

We also offer cedar siding that’s not thermally modified since the wood’s natural oils resist decay on their own. These boards weather to a beautiful silver patina if left unfinished. Or, apply a UV-protectant oil and they hold their warm tone.

Want aged character from day one? The Reclaimed Exterior line comes in Gray, Cali, White, and Rustic White Oak finishes. Meanwhile, our shiplap siding collection covers overlap-style profiles across materials, and every product here installs horizontally or vertically. You just won’t find this much variety elsewhere, so shop the best selection of wood siding today!

Frequently asked questions

Is wood siding a good idea?

Yes. Real wood offers a beautiful natural grain variation, texture, and visual warmth that just can’t be matched by manufactured materials. It's repairable, too, since individual boards can be replaced without redoing an entire wall. Exterior wood siding lasts decades with proper maintenance, so it’s a smart investment for any home or commercial building. Just be prepared to take on more upkeep than you would with composite or vinyl.

How is wood siding sourced at WoodPlank?

We only work with established suppliers and carefully inspect each product line for quality, durability, and consistency before adding it to our catalog. We’ve spent over 20 years in the millwork industry developing relationships built on track record and product performance. We’re happy to talk over the specific sourcing details on any species in this collection - call us at (844) 755-9663.

Is WoodPlank's exterior wood siding eco-friendly?

The thermally modified products in this collection (our Thermowood siding line) use only heat and steam during the treatment process. No chemical preservatives at any step of the journey. Wood is a renewable building material, and thermal modification extends its lifespan quite a bit. Reach out to our team directly for certifications/sustainability documentation on specific lines.

Can I install WoodPlank siding in any climate?

Thermally modified wood is specifically engineered for moisture and temperature resistance, so it works across just about any climate. Western red cedar’s natural oils make it resilient in any environment, too. Maintenance schedules vary by region. For instance, sunnier, hotter areas may need more frequent UV oil reapplication. Our team can help match the right species and finish to your local conditions.

What type of wood is best for siding?

No single species is the best across the board. All depends on your climate, the look you want, and how much maintenance you're willing to take on. Ash brings hardwood density and strong moisture resistance. Poplar has exceptional durability and looks stunning. Pine is the lightest and easiest to work with. Hemlock has a refined, low-knot surface for contemporary designs.

What are the design considerations for wood siding?

Start with profile - V-Joint, Nickel Gap, S4S, shiplap, and tongue-and-groove (T&G) each create different shadow lines and visual rhythm on the wall. Orientation matters too. Horizontal runs are more traditional, vertical runs feel modern. Board width changes the finished look as well. Wider planks mean fewer seam lines, which matters for larger facades. Every wood species has its own natural color and grain character. Order samples before committing - there’s no better way to see how a species looks against your existing exterior.

What are the maintenance requirements for wood siding?

Again, depends on the specific siding you go with. Our thermally modified options hold up well structurally but will weather to silver-gray over time without a finish. Keep the original warm color by applying a UV-protectant oil after installation (recoat every 1-3 years). Cedar ages naturally to a patina if you prefer that look, or it can be oiled to hold its tone. Periodic cleaning/inspection is a good practice across the board.

Does WoodPlank offer a warranty?

Warranty terms vary by product line and species. Check the individual product page or call us at (844) 755-9663 before ordering for specific coverage details. Our team can walk you through what's covered for the option you're considering.
